Now thats a good idea, there is a boot option to disable ACPI, and I'll look
in the bios too. Trouble is it could appear to work for a week and then do it
again. I wonder how to turn logging up?

I have an identical system which works fine in linux (e100) but the diea of
backing up 153G in /home and finding a linux distro with up to date enough
packages, and reinstalling is a bit daunting.

I thought that would be the case, but I am constantly pleasantly surprised at
what DOES work.I just plugged a wireless mouse usb gizmo into the lappie and
it "just worked" in X, while the trackpad and the nipple in the middle of the
keyboard work too.
