I'm interested in things like this too. If you haven't heard of it there is
also the Qtopia Greenphone by Trolltech[1] There was a presentation on it at
LCA and it looks fairly cool.

I don't know what the status of the Openmoko is at the moment but you can buy
the Greenphone for US$695

It looks like this is fairly squarely in your market niche already. (I
bet I could fairly trivially add the appropriate packages to the thing
to add Voip handset to it's list of capabilities.) And you have the
import infrastructure up and running.

I'm not interested in the hassle of importing, handling warranty /
etc. I'm more interested in creating value added on the phones
themselves. (ie. I see these things as great "enablers" with the
potential for becoming my dreamed of Universal and Excellent UI &
Security token for embedded systems.)

If I said to you "What's your price for two OpenMoko phones", what
would your response be?
