If you have an nvidia card and are using the binary drivers, then you should be 
using the TwinView options, and not Xinerama. If you aren't (e.g. using onboard
Intel) then, yes you should be using Xinerama, but in my experience, it's 
always been easier to do this by hand-editing the X config, rather than relying 
on
distro tools, who usually get it horribly wrong.

I used to have an old config lying around, for when I used an old GeForce 1 + a 
PCI S3 Virge card, but I expect it's been lost to the mists of time. In the case
of the on-board chip, I expect the answer is in using the fake second card 
method.
