I have noticed that the forcedeth driver on nforce4 occasionally locks up the ethernet port under high load with multiple connections, no further data transfers are possible. A hard-reset of the box is insufficient(!!), a power-off is required to clear the condition. Connection to a good quality (Allied Telesyn) 100M switch. Looks like the reverse engineering of the open source driver is still a bit incomplete :(. You could try nvidia's binary ethernet/sound driver if you feel like it (I don't). > If I am best to purchase a new network card does anyone have any > suggestions for a reasonably priced Gigabit card? Gig cards can be easily obtained for $25. No idea as to their Linux competence or chipset.
