I have noticed that the forcedeth driver on nforce4 occasionally locks
up the ethernet port under high load with multiple connections, no
further data transfers are possible. A hard-reset of the box is
insufficient(!!), a power-off is required to clear the condition.
Connection to a good quality (Allied Telesyn) 100M switch. Looks like
the reverse engineering of the open source driver is still a bit
incomplete :(.

You could try nvidia's binary ethernet/sound driver if you feel like it
(I don't).

Gig cards can be easily obtained for $25. No idea as to their Linux
competence or chipset.
