The fact that there is a "low latency kernel" for ubuntustudio makes me
wonder whether installing the metapackages mentioned by Eliot
Blennerhassett a day or so ago will actually produce the same result as
installing ubuntustudio from scratch.

A low latency kernel is pretty essential to running JACK and JACK is
pretty essential for running pro quality audio tools.

This, along with the knowledge that ubuntu completely bollocksed the
compilation of the xvid library for feisty so that encoding to xvid (one
of the most popular video codecs on the planet) takes 3 times longer than
it should makes me nervous about ubuntu and multimedia.
