My 2 pence worth:
I've never used frontpage, and any information I have on it is probably out
of date, so if I say anything here that is inaccurate, please someone pick
me up on it!

I would say that if your Aiden wants to learn about Internet and Web pages
then you're really talking (or should be) about (x)html and css and
javascript to a certain degree... in short standards based web development.
I would question the value of a course that requires the use of a tool that
'writes it's own html' AFIK output from most WSIWG html 'editors' is far
from ideal and in most cases you're way better off writing it yourself along
with as stylesheet or two. You learn more and you know what you've got at
the end of it!

If Aiden wants to this course with a view to following a career in web
design, then he should be familiar with xhtml and css at the very minimum...
I would also say that he should learn a web framework or two (django is my
choice, but turbogears, RoR and a myriad of others are available too) and
some sort of scripting language (python, ruby or even *shudder* php) and
javascript. If the idea of doing the course is just from the point of view
of exposure to rigorous study then I guess it doesn't matter as much!

I agree with pretty much all of what's been written in responses so far...
and I would add that web development/programming is rife with opportunity
for self study. Perhaps if the main aim of the course is to do a course,
then something that doesn't have the same level of information and
opportunity available through books and the internet would be a better
choice..?

Cheers,
Ben

I'll bet you got this from the Ubuntu site.

nVu still works and is available from the Mepis repositories.

Ubuntu says what you said but Komposer is not yet available from their
repositories as far as I can tell.
