To make browser mode the default in Nautilus, you can fire up
"gconf-editor", open "/apps/nautilus/preferences", and tick
"always_use_browser".
Alternatively, you can do it via the command line:
$ gconftool-2 --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser \
--type=bool true
