Good News Everyone.... Fendalton library has (hence every ChCh library has access to) Hal Fulton's "The Ruby Way" http://rubyhacker.com/coralbook/
and "Best of Ruby Quiz" http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/titles/fr_quiz/ While I wouldn't recommended either for someone just starting with the very basics of Ruby, they both will definitely help you to master it. If you waste time on sudoku's and the like, the Ruby Quiz book is for you. I found that since I have been using Ruby for years now, most of the first half of The Ruby Way held very few surprises for me. However, the second half introduced a number of the more powerful and handy ruby libraries around. If you are fairly new to ruby, this book will certainly help you grok some of the really handy idioms of ruby.
