I read an interesting article on kind of related to this yesterday in LXF...

The upshot is that when you buy Vista with the M$ office trial the option to
save in anything other than Office XML (DOCX?) is disabled. Likewise you
can't copy the text in said document and paste it into another document....

Therefore any work you do in office during the trial, is completely
unavailable to you if you then decide to not purchase it... Unless you know
a great deal about XML and also probably have a lot of time on your hands!
I'm familiar with M$'s fondness for lockin, but this to me is a breathtaking
liberty to be taking with customers!!!
