Hi Kerry (!)
There are some other things to check if your laptop has intel based
graphics. You can tell when you start looking at your xorg.conf. If
Intel, it will have a line like:
Driver "i810"
in the "Device" section.
As a btw, take a backup of you xorg.conf before you edit it. I got
very used to having X fail to load, using CTL+ALT+F1 to bring up a
text terminal and restoring my backed up xorg.conf. Without a backup
I had previously been forced to use vi to edit the file, trying to
remember exactly what I had changed!
Cheers
Kerry. (!)
