Chris's point is a necessary one..

My ancient Panasonic PostScript KX-P4455 no longer seems to work with
*nix :-/
Really, what's the problem?
For BSD using lpd see:-
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/printing-intro-setup.html
Is this the downside of 'quick, off the shelf' distros?
i.e. The advice I followed in retaining this printer - "anything marked
PostScript will work with Linux" - isn't so simple anymore? The KX-P4455
won't run off Ubuntu 6.06 or 7.04 - even though the P4450 is listed -
job seems to arrive, but not print.
Have tried the KX-P5400 setup too, which uses a "Postscript" driver
rather than the P4450's "ljet3", but still no joy.
Should I use the "GhostScript pre-filtering" available for the P5400?
Chris's link shows what kind of configuration help is traditionally
available, and the value of tradition.
And for all unices using the CUPS here is the required .ppd file:-
http://fresh.t-systems-sfr.com/unix/src/privat2/cups-drivers-all-0.3.6.tar.gz:a/usr/share/cups/model/panasonic/p4455514.ppd
So I could just extract that folder and file into place?:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /usr/share/cups/model/
cups-included HP-Color_LaserJet_1500.ppd.gz
HP-LaserJet_1020.ppd.gz Minolta-magicolor_2430_DL.ppd.gz
custom HP-Color_LaserJet_2600n.ppd.gz
linuxprinting.org-gs-builtin pxlcolor.ppd
Generic-OAKT_Printer.ppd.gz hpijs
Minolta-Color_PageWorks_Pro_L.ppd.gz pxlmono.ppd
Generic-ZjStream_Printer.ppd.gz HP-LaserJet_1000.ppd.gz
Minolta-magicolor_2200_DL.ppd.gz
gutenprint HP-LaserJet_1005.ppd.gz
Minolta-magicolor_2300_DL.ppd.gz
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.0/en/pa*
ls: /usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.0/en/pa*: No such file or directory
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /usr/share/cups/model/cups-included
Dymo Epson HP Okidata Zebra
And many thanks to Alan Wilkie for his great design work.
Indeed, it's really lovely. Any chance of re-sizing it to be 2 or 3-up
on an A4 page?
That can perhaps most easily be done at the copy shop.
Pity it has "Producer (Acrobat Distiller 3.0 for Windows)" in the file.
What's its provenance?
Ok. The race is on then. Can anyone come up with something FOSS-made,
based upon Alan's poster design, or upon this?:

It is needed today, for sharing around. Thanks if you can help.
Cheers, Rik
