Hi all, Time to get those burners humming.. :)
Wednesday's Star and Mail both had notices featuring the words "CLUG" and "Installfest" in the same paragraph.
And having been rung by the Chch South Library ICT desk for a heads up on 'network problems' occurring this week - to do with slow logins and software serving :) - there is perfect timing for us now.
As a result of the eDay dialogue we got SFD into the CCC notices system, though I haven't found where yet.. Thus, we have been warned, we should be prepared for a goodly number of CCC staff visiting our SFD event tomorrow.
So, "it's all hands on deck" please. Any FOSS user, any skill level, has a role to play on SFD. Most of the day task is either simple guidance around a GNOME or KDE or $X_foss_desktop - tutoring start - or basic conversation on what it's all about. SFD is very easy to run, and just plain Fun. Brand newbies, and a sprinkling of doyens who come out of the woodwork for this day or two (e.g. Dave Lane was helping us last year. Hi Dave.)
Everyone who can is encouraged to arrive with a clutch of $X_fav_distro in hand, to gift, install, trade, sell, or whatever you can negotiate. We have bulk Ubuntu 6.06 left over from last year, to back up the other, newer disk supplies; anyone able to rattle off some 7.04 would be really helping a lot. Normally we'd have had that supplied, but we got in a tangle this year because Nick registered a CLUG SFD team as soon as it was possible. That set back the usual Team Chch process such that we ended up missing out on free CDs (which have been advertised) it seems. For all I know our CDs are sitting on Nick's doorstep right now, but we'll have to wait for his return from Europe to find out. Unless someone in Lyttleton wants to check?..
But this is a truly Free Market day, where our community can demonstrate all its finest tools, toys, variety, and talent. So please feel welcome to contribute any way you can. And many thanks to those that already have. Event details:
