I have never had any problems with installing or updating openssh. In a 
production environment, it's one of the products that I tend to build manually 
and keep well up-to-date ( 4.7p1 in testing as we speak ) - mainly because I 
don't believe in the security through obscurity approach of stuffing it on 
non-standard ports, except when port forwarding to different machines...

I never cease to be amazed that I can upgrade and restart the sshd server 
whilst logged in through it - but it works seamlessly every time!
