Try clamav.net. Build from source, and use clamscan to check the relevant directory. It'll take a bit of reading to get it working and up-to-date, but certainly not more than an hour...
(sudo) clamscan -r --bell -i / will display all infected files, and ring the bell when it finds one, too!
