Whilst it's considered not be the very best of nettiquette to reply to
your own postings, I thought folks might be interested to know what I
have discovered and have a play with this stuff and their younger
relatives and over the holiday period. After some pointers from a
friendly /.er I got build 625 to run in VirtualBox. Quite impressive
too I may say!

I'll be putting the VirtualBox-GPL and OLPC files into the CLUG
Archive at St. Albans next time I'm over there.

It's reputed to work inside a qemu emulation as well.

Not the very latest OLPC image, but apart from the sound it works well
enough for me.
