I am happy to work with someone else to do presentation on the following topics:

Samba
Home networking

Samba: What would people like to see presented? Are we just going to look at simple file shares or do people want to know how to set up their linux box to provide windows print shares? Or linux desktop to print to a windows printer? Or PDC authentication and home folders and profiles?

I have noticed quite a few posts in the past where people just want to know about the simple file sharing stuff. The smb.conf file comes with lots of demonstration stuff but really you only need a very small subset to get something meaningful.

Home Networking: What would people like to see presented? 10 minutes on TCP/IP address space - 192.168.0.0/16 ? Different home server distros, what they include, how easy they are to set up and who on CLUG is using what? How to set up the wan side for Telstra Clear or a Telecom ADSL connection with a router? How to port forward (what is port forwarding?) DMZ? What about ddns so people can set up their own mail servers? Mail server tools - drop mail, sendmail, dovecot - simple interfaces. What about WebMin? IPCop, ClarkConnect both come with their own web GUI. Do you want some talk about the basic networking - hardware - what you can do, what you can't do - 123 for dummies? How to wire up your home? What about wifi? Would you like 10 minutes on how to set up wifi, the do's and don'ts?

Cheers Don

I have been fiddling with the Wiki.
And have created a list here:
http://clug.net.nz/index.php/ProposedMeetings
which is a list that we put together at the last CLUG meeting.

It is a list of topics that those at the meeting thought might be interesting.

If you think that you can give at least a semi-authoritative talk on any of these please edit the Wiki appropriately and possibly also post something to the list.

If your expertise is not on the list and you feel the inclination to expound please either post to this post or off-list to me or edit the Wiki appropriately.

Don't be shy!

I also changed the home page as the post about the Mike Culver talk was still there and also Jim's post about changing to the new Wiki version

Also made changes elsewhere

Looking forward to the flood of volunteers!

Zane
