If you have the install media for Mandrake 10 it may not be necessary to 
chroot into the hard drive.

Here is what I discovered;

Insert cd 1 from the Mandrake 10 Official install media and reboot.

When the splash screen comes up push F1 for more options as suggested.

A text screen will appear with a boot prompt. Type rescue at this prompt and 
press enter.

A dialog box should eventually appear with "re-intall Boot Loader" as one of 
the options available.

I did not test this procedure past this point as I did not wish to make any 
changes on the computer being used for this test.
