It's not looking good.

It's a forwarder (meaning you can use the router as your name server),
but if it doesn't resolve the dhcp hostname, the dhcp server doesn't
feed its data into the forwarder. The dig output showed no response, so
you're SOOL. :(

You have to decide whether to upgrade if the current solution doesn't
give you all the features you want.

You don't need to trash the woosh POS. You can use it in front of your
own firewall box, one could even argue that that gives you an added
layer of protection.

If you're concerned about the power consumption of a junk yard PC[1],
there are alternatives available which go on <20W, but they will cost
you a little bit of money (certainly more than a 6pack).
