It is possible to use the Windows key as a modifier through the GUI
keyboard shortcuts tool in Gnome. Two methods:
1. Guile and cunning
* System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts
o Find the shortcut that you wish to set, eg. Switch to
Workspace 1
o Hold down the Windows key
o Click on the shortcut line with the rat
o Type the other half of the key-combination, eg. 1 to
get Windows-1
o Release the Windows key
2. Something a little more permanent
* System -> Preferences -> Keyboard
o Layouts, Layout Options, Alt/Win key behaviour
+ Super is mapped to the Win keys
* System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts
o The Windows key will act as a modifier, just like the
Alt or Ctrl keys

Alternatively, they can be viewed and edited using gconf-editor (which
I couldn't find in the menu any more).
