Some app or process is randomly downloading to my computer. I came in this morning and the lights on my router were flashing away franticly. My connection was also very slow. It turns out I had busted my cap and was being throttled. Now I typically average only 50meg useage a day but in the last 24 hours I used 500meg and 80meg in the last four hours alone and I haven't even been at the computer. The downloading varies between four and ten minutes then stops. There doesn't appear to be a set period between downloads.
I had a look at htop and the only processes that stand out (or I don't recollect seeing before) are a couple of spamd child and five instances of /sbin/getty/ 38400 tty1 through tty5 What should I be looking for and what can I put in place to track what is downloading and where it's coming from?
