Yes part of the reason for it is to back up mythtv's recordings while I rebuild the box. At about 2G/hour most movies are over 4G and indeed there are 8G files I need to back up. I think I will go for ext3 until this backup job is finished, and then revisit it (I too have found ntfs-3g to be slow).
