Sorry, I thought there was lack of interest. See at end. Tips from me: qt 3 has been discontinued, so KDE 3 will have to be phased out eventually. KDE 4 is not quite there yet - apps not yet ported, somewhat unstable in places, but also has a few nifty features (e.g. multi-user simultaneous graphic logins now assign the hotplug device ownership to the last-arrived user). Both KDE 3 and 4 are supplied on the DVD, and I understand they're expected to work in parallel. Go with auto-configuration (default). Installation is much faster - I think about 20min for the works. At least in some cases, installing onto a root fs which is on a soft raid1, a wrong drive partition is put into the grub install commands and the boot loader installation fails. Yast will warn about this - ignore the warning, but *BEFORE THE REBOOT* go into a console, correct the contents of /etc/grub.conf (the grub install commands on SUSE, the menu is in /boot/grub/menu.lst!) and run grub </etc/grub.conf Always boot from MBR (set this up so in yast). Do a nifty network install: boot any media one the target machine with install=ftp://lanhost/suse usessh=1 sshpassword=abcdefgh Password needs to be 8 chars. Then ssh to the target machine and run yast2 (don't forget to forward X in ssh). At ftp://lanhost/suse loop-mount the content of the appropriate ISO. The zypper package management is really good and fast - and bi-architecture, meaning it handles 32bit on top of 64bit (other alternatives don't when it comes down to it). As usual I can supply ISOs - no cost if you bring appropriate hard to take the soft away on (anything pluggable or insertable). 2 DVDs, 2 KDE live CDs, 2 gnome live CDs (all 32bit and 64bit).
