Errm, they didn't "give us a standard", they implemented a de-facto standard in their browser, but essentially didn't tell anyone what it was. Trial and error was the only way to figure out what might work. W3C made some standards and published them. Mind you, Microsoft invented the essential underlying component of Ajax, xmlhttp. http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2005/06/21/406646.aspx It's just a shame that they didn't really understand what it was for; SharePoint still refreshes the whole page when trying to update a small portion of it. -jim
