Ok I might grab a copy of kubuntu then... or did you mean both k and g?
kubuntu has kde desktop by default. g? no idea what that is. ubuntu has gnome.

Does the archive have current copies of that?

many of your other questions are answered when you click the link above. have fun, and please send updates on what you do, there are aspects of this that i haven't got my head around yet so will follow this thread looking for insights.

I will... that's what I was doing, in posting that last message. I'd like to leave a paper trail so that the next person can find my notes and peoples responses. (There's nothing worse than seeing questions on a mailing list archive without ever there being answers!)
