Hello,

I'd like to introduce myself on this list as I've been reading for a few weeks now.

I joined the University in December, and have slowly been inheriting responsibility over linux server related programs, including this list server. I've been looking for ways to improve the list server, and bring it together with the other lists we have here.

So, at the moment, I'm building up a new mailing list server, which I hope to eventually migrate this list over to - by using the new @lists.canterbury.co.nz domain. The new list server runs RHEL5.3, with Exim 4.63 and Mailman 2.1.9. I'll be turning on features like list archives so past mailing list posts can be indexed, and once its tidied up a bit make it available to the general public.

So yes, this does mean sometime in the future we'll be migrating this list over, but I'd be making sure emails addressed to the old @it.canterbury.ac.nz addresses would still pull over for some time afterwards.

Seeing this list is general knowledge for public consumption, I don't see any reason why the archives can't be made available to non- subscribers, but please let me know if anybody has any issues with that.

Any comments or feedback are appreciated,

Cheers
