Well i remember a few years ago that gnome had a major rewrite. I also
remember that it was pretty slow before the rewrite. Now its runs
exceptable speed. But KDE was always slower and a memory hog.
The trouble is that both kde and gnome are badly designed user
interfaces which try and mimic another badly designed user interface
which linux users tend to hate.

If your speaking java, it's worthwhile using eclipse, otherwise stick
with vim (apparently it's crunchy).
