yeah its good to be able to post the same answer twice in one day! although it would not stop Joe User from logging in at the console and then running startx. But Joe could have a /bin/nologin shell which would stop that. Also Joe does not need to know his password if he is only really meant to use the system for samba storage, his samba password need not be the same as his system password.
