Can you confirm that the Master and PCM were unmuted as well as turned up in alsamixer? I.e. says "00" at the bottom rather than "MM". Just running "amixer" will give you a dump of all the control settings, which may be informative. To get rid of any wierd startup settings, remove /etc/asound.state (should be regenerated on shutdown) -- Eliot
