Dunno why - vi is everywhere, emacs isn't.
Even if you hate it, you still have to know how to use it.
And this year we have both versions... xemacs wouldn't work last
year but someone has fixed it to work again (not a lot of
maintenance being done on it)
(vi works all the time :-) )
