I start up X on some work stations with:
   X :1 -indirect hammer2 (hammer2 is my server)

The server then runs chooser and provides available clients (hosts)
for the X server on the work station (Dear me, I can never keep the
client/server business straight when I am fooling around with this.)

Anyway, it would be nice to have customized names for the available hosts,
but, I get the impression that is not possible. However, man xdm does
say that by default chooser removes the domain name if it is the same
as the domain name of the server. This isn't happening with my chooser
server. It displays the full canonical name.

I even added the option
   DisplayManager.removeDomainname: true
to xdm-config, but that didn't seem to have any effect.

I know this file is being read by kdm because when I left out the ":"
in that line, my client machine froze solid when I used:
 X :1 -indirect hammer2

Any insight appreciated,
Joel
