I have the exact same problem with an 850 color Stylus. Only, I had bought a cheap B&W cartridge, which just won't work right. However, the button you press is for poor print quality. The printer decides if it needs to clean the nozzles or allow you to change the cartridge. I finally decided to buy a lexmark. It works great. Someday I may drill a hole and drain the dang cartrige.
