You're right, Fax2Send phonebook sucks :)

In short: incomplete, buggy, lack of documentation.
I like Cypheus, but it's buggy, at has no docs at all (even though it
has many, many options). To make it worst, I get an "type missmatch"
error everytime I print to Cypheus (from the helper app). I've emailed
Bodo Noering, but I haven't received an answer yet.
I'll try smbfax but I don't think my client will like it (print->check
mail->complete a web form, just to send a fax). And AFAIK it doesn't
support inbound fax management (I haven't read the docs yet).
The other alternative is LightningFax (www.LightningFax.com), but they
haven't released a linux version since 6.5 (the current version is 7.5)
and they don't mention Linux in their website. I've emailed them asking
about it.
So, for the moment, the best option still is Fax2Send.

Yes, I have both installed. Just run
/etc/rc.d/init.d/{hylafax,fax2send} stop|start and presto! (You may
have to disable hylafax inbound conections from /etc/inittab).
BTW, if you're using an USR 56K modem, and have problems getting it to
work with HylaFax, just let me know. I can send you my config file (it
took me a few hours of google'ing until I found the right settings).
