No use asking on kde.org they do not answer. Try setting it manually in the kde sound server. Not sure what you're running, but on Mandrake8.1 with kde2.2 it's in the main menu under Configuration -> KDE -> Sound -> Sound Server and click the IO tab. Pick either ALSA or OSS.
