I would suggest 'the Hessling Editor'  (THE)    It does no funny stuff with 
the *viewing* of files  and is pretty flexible in the manner in which you can 
display files.  It also will allow you to specify what 'line ending chars' 
you want or don't want.

If you wanted to send me a sample file, I'd be glad to give it a try using 
THE.
