The original author of the "like eD2.4" wasn't saying it is stuck in a timewarp.
It has the latest stuff (m/l). The next version is supposed to have OpenOffice. The current release has a later XFree than COL 3.1 had. It's fairly current on KDE. And so on. eD2.4 was the starting point, as best I can tell. While Lycoris is hardly perfect. It is worth a look.
