The reason I like Slackware is that it doesn't get in the way of me doing what I want to do. It doesn't have a bazillion interdependencies between packages, so I can pick and choose what I want to install. As a result, it is faster and makes far fewer demands on a system than, say, Red Hat, OpenLinux, Mandrake, SuSE, &c. It also "just works," as Doug said.
