I do not think you will do the users a service by obstructing them the look on the command line. As an author I think you have also the responsibility of opening your readers horizon, not closing it in the name of helping them. The best solution would be to talk about the Desktop and also show the xterm alternative. Back to Mandrake. The desktop utilities in Mandrake 8.x are a smoke curtain. Actually Mandrake is one big smoke curtain. They have not been able to get their stuff straight ever since ver. 5.x. I hope I will live long enough to see them come out with a version that works for a change. Having 4 utilities to edit smb.conf is nice, having 5 different terminal programs is cool, filling up the screen with menu's when you click on the "K" button is probably very wow, but really great would be if their damn' drakconf and other drak whatever would work for a change. Who the hell cares for super GUI's when there is nothing behind!? Mandrakes reputation of being simple and a good choice for beginners is plain wrong.
