Hrmmm...i never knew of anything in /dev that could be catted with output. You sure that wasn't a /proc feature?

In the 2.4.~ kernel, apparently this does not work.
a)  Is this something I'm doing wrong?
b)  Is there an equivalent command for the 2.4.~ kernel?

What did the output look like under a 2.2.x kernel? I'm not clear on the functionality you were getting.
