7.3 appears to be a stable distro; no problems encountered thus far. 1) Found and fixed all the extra daemon crap I don't need - sendmail, kudzu, lpd, etc.
2) Cups installed and running with no problems. 3) sound card and video setup properly by the installer. 3) cdrecord --scanbus works, so I should be able to burn CDs. IDE-SCSI stuff setup by the installer. 4) The usual woes with library placement and miscellaneous RPMs. xfce installed without a hitch. For sylpheed, I had to go to the source tarball and to tell it specifically where libpng is located (also failed to locate SSL, even though installed. Since I'm not using SSL, I'll worry about that another day). The sylpheed RPM (a Mandrake offering) couldn't find lots of stuff; DOA after install with --nodeps 5) Confirmed as reported in an older posting: You can indeed subscribe to the up2date service - no problemo, no questions about purchase. I've retrieved all the current maintenance, but I need to clone the system to a backup partition before trying Russian roulette. All in all, quite a good distro. Now that I have xfce and sylpheed and the binary Open Office 1.01 (BTW, the the OO installer is much improved), it's at least as good as running gentoo. -- Collins Richey - Denver Area Redhat 7.3 system _______________________________________________ Linux-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe/Suspend/Etc -> http://www.linux-sxs.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-users
