You can buy a USB-port reader for about $30 and mount it like a hard disk and read the pictures as jpegs so you don't need fancy software like jphoto. I have a Canon S110 but again, that doesn't matter if you just get the memory card reader. There are even readers that will take both kinds of memory card. Check SanDisk and Dazzle.
