Well, no offense, but your boss is an idiot. That kernel has security holes big enough to drive a truck through. If your boss is stupid, then you need to educate him on how bad of an idea it is to be running an unpatched OS. Seeing as how you're now experiencing hardware limitations, now would be the ideal time.
