right...  imho, it's a _critical_ statistic for system
performance tuning... if there's, a, ah, "significant"
amount of io wait on a given system, then it needs
more disk bandwidth.

at least a half dozen times, i've taken doggy ibm and
sun systems with something like > 10% io wait and made
'em snappy by re-architecting their disks.  interesting
enough, often this resulted in increased swapping/paging
and thus the need for more real memory.

i was thought that the rule of thumb for performance
tuning is: "increasing resources down hill with a
tail wind probably won't make things worse."
