I ended up shifting from perl to python for a major task I recently completed at JPL.
I found python to be sufficiently complete to let me do everything I needed to
accomplish, better organized, and easier to write complex jobs in. Wasn't sorry I
made the shift, was very glad that our manager was willing to listen and go along with
the decision.
