It outputs all the standard DXF, IGES, etc. formats for CAM.  It would 
be totally useless otherwise.
At least half the objective in a CAD package is to export the file to 
another package that will generate a tool path and then that to a 
humongo CAM-based milling machine that takes large pieces of metal in 
one end and spits out small pieces of metal at the other end, 
preferably of a shape that matches your DXF file ;-)
