What equipment do you have terminating the T1 on your end? Is it capable of logging via a syslog server? We had major problems with our T1 several months ago (QWorst provides the local loop, Global Crossings the IP). We terminate via an ADTRAN CSU/DSU connecting to a Sangoma card in a Linux box which made logging errors quite easy. Our logs of down time got us a month's service credit from Global Crossings as a result of these outages (we pay GBLX, they pay QWorst). We're a bit more that 20,000 feet from the CO, and there were multiple problems with the line which were only resolved when they ran a new line from the CO to our place totally replacing everything in the middle. It helps to be friendly with the techs who're doing the work, and to make some contacts with the local telco support management folks. If you're on a first name basis with the person who dispatches the techs, and that person knows you know what you're talking about it short-circuits a lot of potential wasted time. They then know that you've already done things like power cycle the csu/dsu, rebooted the router if necessary, and checked the lights on their equipment before you called them.
