If it's a kernel source supplied by Redhat, all the hard work of copying, adjusting grub/menu.lst resp. lilo.conf, and creating initrd is done by uttering a single command (after make modules_install):
make install

Yes, I have lilo in /sbin/lilo. Do I need to worry about System.map?
