Let's not forget that Gutenberg spent a lot of his time in court trying to enforce his monopoly on movable printing technology. I believe he was unsuccessful, and he never made any big money off his invention. They don't emphasize that in the standard history books. If Gutenberg had enforced his monopoly, he might have risen to become a great philanthropist, like Mr. Gates.
At least we can say that MS is not going soft (no pun intended). And, although Mr. Gates has been quite harsh on his competitors, he hasn't been caught robbing his stockholders, yet, unlike many other industry titans in the last several years.
