that's what dd is for.  its free, and works as advertised.

Perhaps I can just change the partitions to ext2, let DriveCopy copy the
entire disk to the new one, and then change them back to ext3 so everything will work again?
if you trust this DriveCopy thing. quite frankly i'd be very concerned about using a commerical product that can't even understand your filesystem.
