eeeek...2461 times??  What's the load like?  Is the hotplug daemon going
bezerk?  You might want to try stopping & restarting the hotplug daemon
for starters.  Of couse you're runing that ancient, buggy 2.4.2 kernel,
which isn't doing you any favors either.
