Hi All,
I am having a strange problem with one of my computers and I
am not able to discover where is the problem. Maybe someone
on the list have had a similar experience...
The computer aparently is running normally but suddenly it
reboot itself without any warning or message.
Sometimes it happen whan I am not at home so when I arrive
I found the computer at the initial boot prompt, but also
a couple of times the computer have reboot while I was
working on it.
CPU: AMD XP 1800+
Motherboard: QDI KuDoz 7
RAM: 512MB
2 SCSI HDs
2 IDE HDs
Distro: Caldera Openlinux 3.1.1
At the beginning I though that the problem was because of
the temperature (BIOS Health Control) so I tested different
setting but still the problem is there from time to time.
(Now the Health Control is disable but still I get the
problem from time to time).
Here is summer and temperatures inside could be around
30 C (Outside temperature yesterday around 36 C).
The problem is that I can not find any messages or hint
about the problem in any of the files at /var/log/
subdirectory or any other place.
I wonder if there is any log file or similar that could
keep valuable information when a reboot happens.
I have left the machine running Win98 (one test partition)
for 12 hrs and I did not get a reboot but I have had the
machine running Openlinux 3.1.1 for longer and nothing
have happened. I am afraid it is a radom problem.
:(
The thing is that this computer is the one I use most of
the time (24 hrs. a day) to connect to the Net (DSL) and
it is really annoying coming home and found out that the
computer have been rebooted.
I would really appreciate any suggestions you have because
I am really crazy about this problem.
Best regards,
